Not to be confused with the sea-faring man of the same name, Francis Drake of York was a surgeon, fellow of the Royal society, fellow of the Society of Antiquaries in London and Past Grand Master of the Grand lodge of all England.
He was born in 1696 and was the author of a two volume history of York, entitled Eboracum.
